"Do I have enough debt to file bankruptcy?"

This is a question I hear sometimes from prospective clients. The fact is, everyone’s case is different, and everyone’s circumstances are different. There is no minimum amount of debt to justify filing bankruptcy.

For example, $7,000 in credit card debt might be no concern to a high earning professional, but it could feel like an insurmountable obstacle to a senior citizen living on fixed, Social Security income.

In our practice, we have a diverse array of clients across all socioeconomic levels: high-earning professionals, rural farmers, retirees, disabled individuals, widows, blue collar workers, entrepreneurs, and the list goes on. They all needed bankruptcy protection for different reasons. One may have had $10,000 in credit card debt; another may have had $500,000 in medical debt. Everyone’s case is different. Personally, I’ve had clients with $10,000 or less in debt, but I’ve also had clients with over a million dollars in debt. My commitment to helping the client achieve a fresh start is the same in both cases.
